I cannot say enough delicacies regarding this fine book. Its math issues are versatile and simple. They strike a decent balance between fun and high math. several queries are difficult and thought-provoking. My kid is impressed by its attention-grabbing math issues and sometimes needs a lot of. I found similar content in Beestar (an wonderful net website with free math observe at http://www.beestar.org). What a blessing that your kid is raring to be told and have fun! A GRE Book that will not have you ever cursing obscenities

This is the primary GRE book that did not infuriate me. several different books are packed with down-right stupid queries that are solely troublesome as a result of they involve an excellent deal of tedious arithmetic (the average of the eight numbers in column A vs. the typical of the 9 numbers in column B). I've bump into a book that assumed that I bear in mind a bunch of unit conversions (how several feet in a very mile, cups in a very gallon), and one nasty book specifically (now out of print) that kept switching back and forth between integers and real numbers while not specifying that set is being employed. Still different books describe a bunch of "strategies" that are ridiculously time consuming and can't be used realistically on the particular exam. Thankfully, this book had none of the faults I've simply described. whereas there are some errors, they weren't as various as they're in most different GRE books.

The book is separate into over 2 dozen chapters, every chapter managing a selected sort of drawback like geometry, substitution, and exponents & roots. this enables you to specialize in every drawback sort, one at a time, in order that you'll make sure you have got totally mastered it. Personally, i feel this approach is far a lot of useful than learning some general methods for solving what are, primarily, terribly differing kinds of issues. Another nice feature is that the book categorizes every drawback by the amount of problem (Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard). {the drawbacks|the issues} labeled "Very Hard" are meant to be tougher than any problem found on the GRE, and solving them may be a nice confidence booster.

I have a stack of GRE books together with ones by Kaplan and Princeton Review, and this can be by way the most effective GRE Math book I've bump into. Highly counseled.

Update: I simply took the GRE for the primary time and scored a 1580 (800 math, 780 verbal). whereas I used many alternative books to arrange, this was the most one for the mathematics section. If you would like my recommendation, begin with this book. Do each drawback. don't skim. check that you purchase this book (GRE Math Prep Course) and not Nova's general GRE Prep book as a result of the final GRE book doesn't cowl everything that's lined during this one. Once you end this book, you'll use different books as supplementary material. i like to recommend the Barron's book as a result of it's plenty of deceptive, tough queries, and it's helpful to find out the way to spot those gotchas. Finally, be cautious of free, "diagnostic tests" offered by corporations. I took Kaplan's Free on-line apply exam 2 nights before the particular GRE and scored a 1340 (690 math, 650 verbal). By far, the foremost correct apply exam I took was the ETS powerprep (free download) that gave me a 1560 (800 math, 760 verbal) the night before I took the $64000 exam.

Fun applications of elementary math skills

The book is organized into chapters, with every chapter presenting a sort of downside and therefore the ways in which to admit that downside. And then there's a series of connected story issues to unravel, divided into four levels. for instance, one chapter is regarding calculating whether or not an item (rope, building, etc) is powerful enough for the supposed use. Another chapter is regarding deciding what quantity modification you'd get during a store transaction. Another is percentages. Midway through, the concept of algebra is introduced and applied to the later chapters. The chapters are presented terribly conversationally, and justify the way to admit the matter and approach the answer. they're illustrated with cartoons, and with characters discussing the issues.

My second grade daughter loves this book. She is presented in math, and that i was longing for how to feature additional challenge while not "teaching ahead" within the traditional curriculum. This has been nice. it is not teaching new strategies of computation (which she'll get in class via the years), it's teaching approaches to downside solving. She typically will the amount one issues with no facilitate (but has got to assume fairly hard), however desires assistance on level two. She is incredibly pleased with herself when conquering these queries. Levels three and four are beyond her for currently. I will see us revisiting this book per annum, and using it through regarding fifth grade.

These tests are HARD!

I've been tutoring children for the SAT-II Math-II check (among alternative things) and have used the school Board's book for Math-II (only two tests), Princeton Review's book (easy - solely two tests) Barron's Math-I (harder and sensible prep with review however solely three tests), Barron's Math-II (even more durable however sensible review and seven tests), and Dr. Chung's here. Dr. Chung's book is sort of all tests (12 tests). there's virtually nothing within the manner of review of the fabric and therefore the queries are the toughest of all. Some are therefore onerous that it's tough to believe something like them can come back up on the $64000 Math-II check that is why I took off one star. On the opposite hand, if you'll do of these queries you fully, completely understand your stuff and may expect a awfully high score on the $64000 check. you'll miss 5-6 queries on the $64000 check and still get 800 that is maybe why St Martin's Day of the check takers get an 800.

If you teach pre-calc or algebra two there are some nice issues here for further credit on tests.

The Quants, a book with no math

The subtitle begins, misleadingly, with the word, "how." there's no "how" within the book. it's a beach scan, an journey story choked with noir language, however short on words like nonlinear, leptokurtic, nonparametric, adaptive. i believe he uses the term "standard deviation" once.

If Scott Patterson edited the thrill of Cooking, his recipe for chocolate cake would scan as follows:

A handsome math dictionary!!??

Something should be wrong with me--thanks to the current book, i'm an artist who is somehow enjoying browsing through a dictionary concerning MATH concepts!

I bought this book to assist my fourth grade son who is incredibly visual. There are not as several illustrations as i might hoped, however i suppose you'll be able to solely do most visually with math! we tend to received the book yesterday, and cited it three times throughout the course of his homework that afternoon. though terribly temporary, the ideas we would have liked were clearly explained. there's plenty of data within that seems to travel approach beyond fourth grade, therefore I imagine that the book are useful for a few time to come back.

I keep in mind looking out frantically for the definition of "array" earlier this year. it's not during this book, nor are Roman Numerals. however i am still glad that I got the book as a result of currently math appearance alittle additional fascinating to my thereforen as a result of it's presented so colorfully. i feel this has helped his perspective toward math alittle. (Having no follow issues to resolve conjointly improves his perspective toward this book!) For us, this book isn't solely terribly pleasing to appear at, it is also been useful to this point. (Our math priorities are clearly skewed!)

What an excellent very little book! If you're like me, doing most of your math through computers, you'll notice the requirement to travel back and brush up on the basics. A smart refresher, no apply questions

I'd suggest this book for anyone who desires a decent math refresher. This book is in a simple to use format, beginning with straightforward material and attending to the harder from there. every section contains a quick (but good) clarification followed by a good range of apply queries. do not hunt for any long-winded explanations during this book, it's a refresher, simply as they assert. Also, it's printed on smart stock, therefore it holds up nicely. I took mine cross country with no issues, in contrast to the review books printed on newprint that did not fare also.
